June 2018 topic: Exercise – Why and How to Make it Happen
Exercise is one of the cornerstones of diabetes care. It is well known that being physically active helps everyone stay healthier. For people with prediabetes or diabetes, it helps them manage blood sugars and weight.
However, it can also be difficult for anyone to start and stick to an exercise program. And once you get started it can be confusing.
Where do you start? How much time do you really need to spend? What really counts as exercise?
If you have diabetes, what should you expect from your blood sugar readings? If you want to lose weight, what should you expect to see on the scale?
During this meeting, the Diabetes Forum and Support Group identified some of the common barriers to exercise. They then discussed different strategies and how to plan to be successful in sticking to an exercise program.
Try it for yourself. Click here and take “The Barriers to Being Active Quiz” to see what gets in your way.
