January 2019 Topic
Each year, there are certain things that must be done to make sure you are up-to-date on your diabetes care. Medical appointments, lab tests, and vaccinations are all on the list. But when, how often, and who pays for them are important to understanding to plan your calendar and budget for the upcoming year.
The attendees reviewed what should happen at each medical visit. They also learned how often they should have their A1c, blood pressure, and cholesterol checked.
In addition, they discussed why it is important for people with diabetes to have the health of their heart, eyes, kidneys, and feet assessed. Vaccines are especially vital for people with diabetes. They help to prevent diseases from occurring, which in turn avoids serious health problems that can occur if you get sick.
The group learned how to plan for any trips so they would be prepared to care for their health on the road. And finally, health care premiums and a review of cost-sharing methods were defined to better understand the different costs incurred in health insurance plans.
