Have you recently felt yourself lose your motivation to workout or gotten bored with your routine? Are you putting off making time for your workouts? We all need a little push sometimes. That push can come from a really good workout buddy!
Studies have shown that when you work out with someone else you will reach your fitness goals faster.
Having a workout buddy has LOTS of benefits including increasing motivation, creating accountability and competition, and pushing one another harder than you would on your own. When you have a workout buddy it motivates you to work a little bit harder and a little bit longer than you would if you were working out alone. Having a partner to hold you accountable for not only being at the gym on time but for actually pushing yourself to finish the workout. It is tough to bail on your workout when someone is waiting for you. On top of motivation, competition and accountability, you get a free therapy session with a friend. Not only is this a time to burn off some calories and get in better shape but you can socialize while doing it!
When you know you have someone counting on you to be somewhere, you will show up.
When finding a workout partner, it’s important to find the right one. You need someone who you can have fun with, who you could consider a “fitness role model,” someone who will push you to be more fit and help you increase your knowledge about fitness. Your partner must also have a good attitude about working out. You don’t want anyone to be able to hold us back – forward should be the only way to go with a workout partner!
At the end of the day, if you are having a hard time finding the perfect workout partner, any one of our DHAC Exercise Physiologists are always good motivators! 🙂
