DHAC Exercise Physiology Assistant
Hi my name is Sam. I have worked here at DHAC for over a year now, and I cannot believe it. I started out as a co-op and now I continue to work here part time. Personally I feel that I have had a huge amount of personal growth while working here. I have always been very shy and this club has helped me to get more comfortable talking to new people.
My niche has definitely become the 60/60 program. I love teaching people how to exercise and most importantly helping them to feel comfortable in their surroundings. I think a big part of it is that I can empathize with feeling nervous and unsure in a new atmosphere. Working with individuals who are new to the club or new to exercise altogether helps me to forget about myself and to focus on the comfort of others.
Another thing that I love about DHAC is the group fitness schedule. I was introduced to group fitness my freshmen year of college at Northeastern, and I haven’t stopped since. Taking classes like Cardiobox and Thighs Butts and Guts made working out fun, which helped to keep me motivated. Group fitness helps to keep working out interesting and it also provides a great atmosphere because everyone offers support and encouragement to one another.
Recently my love for the 60/60 program has come together with my addiction to group fitness classes. I am about to graduate in May, but I have one last project to complete for school. I designed a group fitness class geared towards beginners, which I hope will instill my love for group fitness in others.
You may have noticed that I have not taught any group classes in the past, at least not on my own. For me that part of the project was the most nerve-racking. While everyone is working up a sweat I will be working on my comfort being at the front of the room.
I am going to hold a one-time class and everyone is welcome to attend. It will be 45 minutes and include components of cardio, strength training, and stretching. Whether you are a 60/60 member or have been curious about group fitness you should definitely come. It might be your first time taking a class but it will also be my first time teaching. We can do it together! I hope to see you there!
