Summer – the season of day drinking. Many don’t think twice about having an alcoholic drink while you are laying out by the pool. For most, being on vacation means not waiting until happy hour. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy a 400-calorie alcoholic beverage while soaking up the sun.
Whoa. Back up for a second. Did you just say 400-calories for one drink?
Yes, that is correct. Well, if you are having a chocolate martini, then it would technically be about 440 calories. On the other hand, if you are feeling really adventurous, you could trip up your diet with an 8oz Long Island Iced Tea – a whopping 780 calories.
And, unless you have amazing self control, you may be eating more calories afterwards. Alcohol can lower your blood sugar and cause mindless eating.
With summer vacations coming about and happy hours out on the patio, it’s pretty easy to get caught up with friends by indulging in a few drinks. But, alcoholic drinks are treats. Without moderation, your diet plans may falter. Want to keep your hard earned summer figure? Stay away from these calorie-rich cocktails:
- White Russian (425 calories)
- Mai Tai (350)
- Pina Colada (378)
- Mudslide (556)
- Strawberry Daiquiri (338)
Some figure friendlier options include:
- Rum & Diet Coke (90 calories)
- Champagne & Light OJ (90)
- Miller 64 (64)
- Vodka Cranberry (100)
- Skinny girl Margarita (100)
Have to have that white russion or daiquiri? Stay away from the extra sugar on the rims and the chocolate swirls that make the drink look pretty.
Also, when sipping a few drinks, try drinking some water in between cocktails. This will help you avoid overindulging and will keep you hydrated.
And as always, it is important to drink in moderation and enjoy the good times. Cheers!
