If you’re like many people, summer is the time to get away from reality. You are probably planning your family’s summer vacation. You’ve spent most of the year working hard on your body and now you’re ready to relax and take a 3 month break from exercise.
Wait!! There is no excuse to stop your work out schedule because you’re going to be away for the summer. There are ways you can keep your work out going while enjoying your vacation! It is important to stay on a maintenance program so you don’t lose all that you gained….or gain all that you lost!
Biking is a great exercise that you can do with your family. Not only is biking a great cardiovascular exercise, but it will also keep your legs and gluts toned. Find a bike path and rent some bikes. Ride for at least 30 minutes or more!
If you have worked hard on your upper body, try swimming. Swimming works the upper body and also provides a cardio boost. Try swimming for 30 minutes. Use a pool. If there is no pool, try swimming at the beach or in the lake.
Another excellent vacation exercise is running or walking the beach. Walking or running on dry sand is a challenging way to get your cardio, and also works the legs. Plus, after you have the option of jumping in the ocean and relaxing after your hard work.
Finally, use your summer cottage/hotel room to do some simple body weight exercises. Try doing a couple sets of push ups and sit ups. You can also do lunges and squats.
It’s easy to keep your work out going even when you’re on vacation. These exercises can even be done with your family, and won’t take away from your vacation. Carve out a little fitness time during your down time. Then you won’t have to start at square one when you get back to your normal exercise routine.
