Did you really say I can “Ditch the Workout™”?
Yes, you heard right! Zumba® Fitness has been taking the world by storm with more than 12 million people of all ages, shapes, and sizes taking classes every week. It’s no wonder Zumba Fitness was named one of the top 10 fitness trends for 2012 by the American College of Sports Medicine. Even celebrities like Jennifer Lopez, Kirstie Alley, Jennifer Hudson and John Travolta are taking classes. The Zumba trend is so hot that musical artists such as Pitbull, Wyclef, and Mara have teamed up with Zumba Fitness. Everyone wants to join in on the fun.
OK, so what is Zumba Fitness and why should I try it? Zumba is the ultimate calorie-burning dance fitness-party set to high-energy Latin and international beats. It’s easy to do, effective, totally exhilarating, and designed for all fitness levels. The biggest misconception is that people think they have to know how to dance to take this class.
This couldn’t be further from the truth! This class is for everyone including men and I am going to let you all in on a little secret. I have NEVER taken a dance lesson in my life. I run on pure adrenaline and passion for the Zumba program and so do the students. It’s a fun time and if you get a step wrong, who cares? We have no rules! This class is all about having a good time and throwing your inhibitions out the window. The party like atmosphere with disco lights gives the class a nightclub feel and students forget they are actually in a gym exercising.
I have been teaching this class for 2 years and I have observed each student evolve from a modest beginner to a Zumbaholic. New students are generally reserved at first but they get hooked and “shake it” a little bit more each week. By their 3rd or 4th class they are shouting and waving their arms in the air along with everyone else. The carefree attitude is simply contagious and new students cannot help but embrace the warm environment. The transformation is like watching a caterpillar turn into a butterfly and the effects Zumba Fitness has on the mind and body are profound.
