How often do you hear yourself telling your child not to climb on the furniture? Playgrounds have climbing areas for good reason. Kids love to climb. They love the challenge, the physicality and the satisfaction of getting to “the top”. As the weather gets colder and the daylight dwindles away earlier where are your little climbers going burn off their energy? How about an indoor rock climbing class? Yes, it’s for kids too!
Every child can benefit from the physical and psychological challenges that rock climbing poses. Rock climbing increasing muscular strength, endurance, balance and body awareness. Even better, a good climbing program will challenge kids to think as they climb. They have to plan their climbing routes and have the determination to get there – even if it takes a few tries.
Instructors will constantly encourage kids to climb farther while teaching climbing techniques along the way. And kids being kids, they are determined, wanting to climb higher than last time. It keeps them excited to progress to the next level.
Of course up there are important things to look for when choosing a great climbing program for your kids. Up to date safety equipment is the first and most important thing. Regular equipment checks and proper safety instruction will make you and your kids feel comfortable with their vertical ascent. Knowledgeable climbing instructors and a positive learning environment are equally as important.
Climbing provides stealth benefits for your kids. So many benefits disguised as so much fun! So let your kids climb to new heights! Just not in your living room.
