As we head into the holiday season, you might be feeling a bit stressed out. Guess what. You’re, not alone. Between 75-90% of all visits to primary care physicians are due to stress.
Stress can not only make your mind race, but it can also have negative effects on your body. Heart problems, disease, high blood pressure, increased resting heart rate and depression are all likely results of stress.
Want to know the easiest way to destress? One word: EXERCISE! Not only will exercise reduce stress, but it will also help make you feel better, and will help banish the anxiety insomnia cycle.
What type of exercise is best? That depends on you! I personally love running to relieve stress. During a run, I forget about all the craziness in life and turn my mind off. After, I feel better, happier and less tense.
You can do this too! Maybe you are not a runner. Why not try some of our group exercise classes here at DHAC? STRIDE and Zumba are great for stress relief because the music and dancing are just plain fun! Not up for an intense work out? Yoga and Pilates help calm the mind and body. Maybe swimming, biking or karate are your thing.
In the end, it doesn’t matter which exercise you choose. Try devoting 30-60 minutes of your day to exercise 3-4 times a week. You will be surprised at how much calmer you feel. Exercise – good for both your body and your mind. It may be just the thing you need.
