So, if you’ve been hanging out on our Facebook page, you might have noticed that one of the recommendations says we are the one of the only salt water pools in the area. It’s true! (We actually have two indoor saltwater pools – one for adults and one for families) But why does this matter?
In order to ensure the comfort, safety and health of our swimmers, we take pool cleaning very seriously. It is critical to kill bacteria and remove contaminants from our swimming water.
Most pools are kept clean through the use of chlorine. The reason your skin gets irritated and your eyes burn after swimming in a chlorinated pool is not from the chlorine per se, but from small chlorine byproducts called chloromines. These chloromines bind with the oils, sweat, body lotion and shampoo that inevitably wind up in the water. Moreover, when too many of these chloromines get into the water, even more chemicals are needed to bring water levels back into balance.
In contrast, with salt systems, chlorine is made naturally. The salt is broken down to its key elements, Chlorine and Sodium. While the chlorine prevents the growth of algae, bacteria and other contaminants, the sodium prevents the chloromines from forming.
Salt systems are great for people with chemical sensitivities. Additionally, they are also good for your skin! They are less drying, and may even help clear up some skin conditions.
In short, salt systems are healthier, they don’t have a strong chemical smell, and they won’t turn your hair green, yellow or purple. Why don’t you come down and see for yourself? You’ll be happy you did!
